The 2009 Season
is Under Way!
Our first gig of the season,
Bark
in the Park, on Sunday, May 17,
was a barking success! Not only were there some dear appearances
by former OMTers (hi, Vicki Cox!) but a possible highlight of the show
was a dog arfing along to Tim's arrangement of "How Much is That Doggie
in the Window." Check out the photos.
Rehearsals Every Friday Evening
OMT Band rehearsals are held every Friday evening. Rehearsal downbeat is at 6:30
p.m. at
1942 W. 11th Ave. (Archer
Brothers 4-Wheel Drive, just east of Garfield Street). Thanks to
Jim Devereaux for letting us use the garage for rehearsals.
Dues Due
The 2009 dues are $35 (total for the entire season). A portion of the
dues will be used to purchase new, short-sleeve polo band shirts. What
color will be they be? Lime green? Hibiscus? Maui blue?. Be sure
to attend the May 1 rehearsal, where, rumor has it, a color will be
chosen.
Dates to Remember
The latest scheduling information
and gigs can be viewed at the
OMT calendar. Please keep in mind
that these are tentative dates and gigs, subject to change. We'll
keep you posted.
Meanwhile,
2008 was a great season!

Running Commentary on the 2008 Season
The One More Time Marching Band officially began its 2008 season on
Saturday, June 21, at the
Brownville Pioneer Parade (followed by a mini concert at Pioneer Park).
The folks in Brownsville were treated to lots of great music, including
Singin' in the Rain,
Washington
Post,
Irish Guard,
Hey, Good Lookin',
Mickey Mouse,
Louie Louie,
Colonel Bogey,
Take Me Out to the
Ballgame,
Looney Toons, and
Hogan's Heroes.
We followed up by playing at the Ems game on June 23. The Ems
lost, but we have a chance to redeem ourselves with another Ems gig on
Sept. 2. Then it was off to Creswell on July 4 for a marathon march
followed by a great get-together at Anne O'Connell's home.
More of the same in Cottage Grove's Bohemia
Mining Days Grand Parade... a shorter march, a very satisfying
short concert in the bandstand, and then on to Corlinda and Michael's
place for pizza and potluck.
Then a new experience, the Emerald City Roller Girls "Track Town
Smack Down." A challenging gig -- upbeat tempos, crazy lights and
acoustics, and many many distractions. Also a ton of fun. For the
good of the order (and our four-footed friends) we played the "Rover
Romp" at Greenhill Humane Society and came up with a new signature tune
("Modern Band Cheers #1" with the yip-yip-yip yip-yip-yip woof ending).
Closing in on the end of the season, we regaled the fans at Civic
Stadium for a second go-round at an Ems game on Sept.
2. Then we hit Washburne Park for a
sit-down concert on Sept. 7. Along the way, we marched through McMenamin's Bar at 19th and Agate. All in all, it was a good performance
and showed how far we have come since our last appearance here a year
ago. A big crowd, a small paycheck ... what more could we ask!
The last gig of the year - the Eugene Celebration Parade
- was Saturday, Sept. 13. We were entry
#33, keying off the
"dream" theme" as in "I Dream of Eugenie,"
bedecked in flannel nightcaps lovingly sewn by Nanette. We marched
to "Louie Louie," "Washington Post,"
Tim's arrangement of "Dream On," "March of the Irish Guard," "Hey Good Lookin',"
and "Mickey Mouse." No trophies, but it felt great to hear the
crowd roar as we struck up the tunes.
We closed the season with a picnic hosted by Sally and Bing Ott.
See you next season!
